4-Part Harmony

Barbershop Quartet

When a Barbershop Quartet looks at a new piece of music, the notes that are written on the page are already in harmony. The quartet is not fixing the chords so that they will harmonize. The singer’s job is to interpret the score in such a way as to find the harmony that is already there and adjust the delivery so it sounds that way.

That is how it works with the four gospels. We don’t need to try and make them fit together. The harmony is already there. We just need to discover how the Holy Spirit has already harmonized the four writings and then preach it that way.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. 2nd Timothy 3:16-17

In the coming months (possibly years)I will attempt to show the harmony of the four gospel accounts not create a harmony. If the Holy Spirit breathed these words to men, then He is the ultimate author and His words are already in harmony.
